Project Overview

We were appointed by a leading national insurance company to deliver a full office fit-out for their new southern base in East Grinstead. The aim was to transform a dull, uninspiring office into a vibrant and engaging environment that could serve both existing staff in the local area and accommodate future growth.

The brief was clear: create a flexible, bright workspace that supported a range of working styles—from individual focused work to open collaboration—while also leaving room for expansion.

Scope of Work

The client’s vision centred on three key objectives: to create an attractive and welcoming environment that staff would be inspired to work in; to accommodate a range of working styles, including focused, collaborative, and hybrid approaches; and to ensure the space was adaptable for future growth, with a layout designed to scale alongside the evolving needs of the team.

The Design

Client-Facing Waiting Area: Positioned at the front of the office, this space includes soft armchairs, laptop tables, and subtle branding. Designed for dual use, it also serves as an informal meeting area or quiet workspace.
Open Plan Workspace: Designed to support 12 team members with height-adjustable desks, ergonomic task chairs, and personal storage lockers.
Collaboration Zone: A bespoke collaboration table forms the heart of the office, ideal for team catchups and creative sessions.
Meeting Spaces: A 12-person meeting room offers a formal setting for team updates and client presentations. A separate acoustic 4-person booth provides a more private space for smaller discussions.
Quiet & Individual Working: Two enclosed phone booths and a single-person “hot office” were installed to offer privacy for calls or focused work away from the main floor.

Ceiling, Air Conditioning and Lighting

Following the initial strip out and dismantling phase we installed the existing outdated suspended ceiling and installed a new grid system with acoustic ceiling tiles. Integrated LED panel light was installed for improved energy efficiency and brightness. Whilst working on the ceiling we reconfigured the existing air conditioning system to suit the new layout. We rebalanced the system and added additional units where required to ensure consistent airflow and temperature across all areas.

Partitioning

We installed a combination of solid stud partitioning and glazed walls to define spaces while maintaining a sense of openness. Acoustic insulation was included in the meeting room and phone booths to reduce noise transfer.

Furniture

We supplied and installed all furniture, tailored to the needs of the space:

Height-adjustable desks and ergonomic chairs in the open-plan area.
Soft seating in the client lounge and breakout zones.
Storagewall with integrated coat cupboards and full-height units.
Room-dividing storage cubes to subtly define zones while providing ample storage.

Flooring

A variety of flooring types were used to zone the space. Carpet tiles in different designs and colours were used in the meeting spaces and open plan areas whilst a contrasting carpet was used along the corridor space to visually zone each area. Luxury vinyl tiles were installed in the break out area for a durable and sleek finish.

Break Out Area

A welcoming break out area was created, working with the client’s existing kitchen units. We installed a vibrant blue tiled splashback to introduce some colour and the new luxury vinyl tile flooring freshened up the space. A breakfast bar with stools provides a perfect spot for a cup of coffee and the new pendant lighting adds to the ambiance.

Storage Wall

A bespoke storage wall was installed in the main office area. Working with our client we were able to assess their storage requirements for the space. The new storage wall enables our client to store files, includes recycling bins and has a made to measure space for their print area.

Final Thoughts

The finished office is a complete transformation: from a tired, generic shell to a bright, modern, and dynamic working environment. The thoughtful layout, contemporary finishes, and versatile working zones support both current operations and future team expansion.
